my puppy died from a lung tumor late last summer. she was only 4 and i miss her so much. We hiked together almost every day in the national forest. We drove 250 miles to idaho to pick puppy up, she was so tiny, she rode all the way back on my lap. Her name is Sienna, but i called her puppy when she was little and just never stopped.
i wrote this poem shortly after puppy died.
my puppy
my puppy, my love, the sweetest thing
body so very warm, purest of heart
her laughing face forced smiles of delight
my puppy, my love made my heart sing
her special love flowed from her heart
part of the darkness was blessed by her light
my puppy showed love like only she could
love in her eyes, a gentle bump on the trail
her back pressed hard against me in trust
my puppy, my love deserved so much good
her innocent heart loved without fail
puppy’s short time here, brief and unjust
my puppy was loved and gave me so much
joy for my heart and smiles for my face
her soft devotion eased so much fear
my puppy, my love, so warm and lovely to touch
resting she waits in a new beautiful place
till then i will miss you my puppy, my love
